About Bridge City

Who We Are

Bridge City. That’s us. The church isn’t an organization, or a program or a building. The church is the people. We are a group of people committed to walking with each other as we learn to live & love like Jesus.

We don’t care so much about what label you wear. We’re not out to fix you, or even answer all your questions. We’re learning to be present, to listen to the Spirit, and to walk with each other as we learn to live in the way of Jesus, in our journey of healing, growth, and holiness.

Where We Gather

Sunday Nights Hybrid (In Person + Zoom + FB Stream)

We assemble on Sunday evenings. You can join us in person at the Bridge House or remotely via Zoom or Facebook live stream. The evening is made up of two parts.

We start with Worship & Word at 6 PM. Our worship gathering includes singing, scripture, prayer, and a dialogical sermon from one of our elders or community members. You can participate in person, via Zoom, or by watching the live stream on the church’s public Facebook Page

We turn to Community Prayer at 7:15 PM. During this time, we get a chance to hear from everyone and to pray for each other and our world. Once a month, we take communion together. Because sharing can be more personal, we only stream this segment into our private Facebook group. You can participate in person, or via Zoom.

Ongoing on Facebook

We gather during the week in a semi-private Facebook group for encouragement, community, and discipleship. Each week we have devotionals, inspirational music, and opportunities to support each other. This space is where you can find our current mid-week discipleship group.

Leadership & Governance

Bridge City is a non-denominational Christian church, with no direct affiliation to any denomination or ministry network. Our founding circle were all Seventh-day Adventists, but we were never a part of that denomination. Over the years we have included members and staff from a wide variety of streams of Christian tradition. This diverse background has given us the ability to understand and relate to a wide variety of different church experiences. In particular, we have a soft spot for people who have left legalistic or fundamentalist communities and are recovering from what they experienced there.

Bridge City is led by a plurality of elders. The elders are members of the church tasked with the responsibility to lead, shepherd, teach, and equip, while offering a Godly example to the church. The elders have the authority to make decisions regarding church life, but in most cases and wherever possible, decisions are made collaboratively with the church members. The elders are co-equal in authority making decisions together, yet each elder may have specific areas of expertise and experience where their voice carries additional weight. Elders may have a specific portfolio of areas in the church that they directly oversee on behalf of the full team of elders. The elders are appointed by the church. They do not do all the work of ministry but equip members to do ministry as a part of maturing in Christ.
